Trevor and Kathryn Cook are former owners of the Crown Inn, Bacup which was well known for its real ale. The Crown had been owned by the Cook family for 30 years.

They opened their small craft brewery in November 2005 and the brewery is named after their art gallery barearts which was founded in 2000.

Despite the brewery appearing small from the outside it is a compact 4 barrel plant. This means it is capable of brewing over 500 litres of beer at a time and this could be done twice a week however barearts beers are very special and they are brewed over a much longer period than most other breweries and this is what gives them a very complex taste.

We use only British barley in our beers.

We specialise in brewing beer, cider and perry to drink at home. The strong vintage beers are well hopped and have been matured for over a year.

You can buy our beers in 500ml bottle and sometimes in 5 litre mini casks. You can also buy our beers on-line at our web-site.

All the beers are real ales. This means that they are unpasteurised and not artificially carbonated. The beer is a natural live product which contains yeast for a slow secondary fermentation in the bottle and in mini casks. This process provides wonderful fresh flavours and a pleasant, natural effervescence.

barearts brewery off-sales is, we believe, the only licensed nude art gallery in the U.K. if not the whole world. The art is the work of Kathryn Mernagh Cook and consists exclusively of nudes. All the real ale, ciders and perries are made in the barearts craft brewery in Todmorden.

The shop is situated at 110 Rochdale Road Todmorden and backs on to the Rochdale canal. It is very easy to find as it is painted in shocking pink.

You can only buy samples of our produce to consume on these premises if you are considering buying some to be consumed elsewhere.
