is a truly distinguished bottle-conditioned ale.Bottle conditioning means that a little yeast is left in the bottle after bottling, which will mature slowly over time like a fine wine or whisky.
Like wine, collecting beers for maturing can be a fun and rewarding hobby. As a rule most beers are drunk fresh as they are low in alcohol and lightly hopped these beers are best enjoyed before the ravages of light, heat and time denigrate its flavours and character. But some beers can actually improve over time becoming more balanced and complex.
The mass produced beers of today are heat pasteurized and filtered, which extends their shelf-life, but makes them unsuitable for maturing.
At barearts brewery we are brewing strong, heavily hopped, bottle conditioned beers which are being specially brewed for maturing. We now have a range of matured beers (over 6 months old) and vintage ales (over 12 months old).
