"This was my tribute to Ally Sloper, the Victorian comic character from the adult comic paper 'Ally Sloper's Half Holiday ' (1884 - 1923), because I have collected many memorabilia from the magazine over the years. This was my third unicyclist, but the first in which I solved the problem of making the legs go right around on the pedals. The mechanism in Ally Sloper's back causes him to raise his head and take a swig from his bottle every couple of laps. When you realise that the frame of the unicycle is the only way to transmit movement to the legs, arms and head, you can see the mechanicle complexity of this automata'
The glass cased automata with Half Holiday scraps, when operated Ally cycles in a circle swiveling from side to side at the waist, every couple of laps he raises his hat opens his mouth and takes a drink from the bottle. Electic operation. 72 X 38 X 38 cm
