Kathryn has studied art from the age of sixteen. She attended a foundation course in art and she then went on to study textile design. It was whilst studying for her degree that she became very disillusioned with the "art and design" world. She decided to have nothing further to do with creative arts. Several years later she was persuaded, by her brother in-law, to attend a life drawing session, with him, as he had never attended one before. She kept him company for a few sessions and then she stopped going. Frank Nelson later persuaded her to start again.
When the life drawing group closed Kathryn decided she would set up her own group. She was then landlady at the Crown Inn and had a suitable room, which she made into a studio. This was the beginning of the barearts group.
Kathryn and her husband Trevor opened the gallery in Todmorden and also launched the on line gallery www.barearts.com. These are totally independent and financed by the sales of art work.
Kathryn main influences, after David, her brother-in-law and Frank, are Tony Hancock "the artist" and Rolf Harris. Unfortunately she only had a black and white telly.
All Kathryn's spontaneous life drawings are done using a nude model. It is from these drawing she creates her large canvas paintings. She has a unique style and is very prolific and has sold almost everything she has painted.
